Head of Operations

I rejoined Common Good in 2023 after a two-year hiatus. As a human ecologist and educator, I continue to serve in a variety of community service roles, including director of both the Millers River Watershed Council, based in Athol, MA, and the Warwick (MA) Free Public Library. I co-founded the Rainforest Alliance in New York City, where I developed the Smart Wood Certification Program, and was a founding member of the Forest Stewardship Council. I also was a founding member of Earthlands in Petersham, MA, and have worked extensively with the Sacred Earth Network on deep ecology and Russian biodiversity projects.

I am an avid drummer, walker and history buff. I served as chair of the Gill (MA) Historical Commission and represented the Commission on the Great Falls BattleField Grant Advisory Committee supervising a long-term study of the 1676 battle that was a turning point in King Philip’s War. I graduated from Columbia College in NYC and received an M.P.H. degree from the Columbia University School of Public Health with a concentration in Environmental Science.

Communications & Outreach

I started working with Common Good in January 2021 as an intern and am now on staff working as Communications and Outreach Coordinator. My role with Common Good has evolved many times during my time here, allowing me to expand on my skills and foster new strengths. My work with Common Good allows me to put my creative energy into something I believe in – helping communities become more economically resilient.

I graduated from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in May 2022 with a bachelor’s degree in Biology, and accepted a second position as a Laboratory Technician at MilliporeSigma developing antibody-based drugs. I have always had a passion for helping make sure everyone can live healthy, fulfilling lives and realized during my studies that some of the major barriers in getting there are socioeconomic. I am grateful to tackle public health from both ends by having a role in both the life science field and in the social justice space here at Common Good.  I believe that a strong sense of community and compassion for others is essential in creating a more equitable future, and feel fulfilled knowing my work aligns with these principles.

Outside of work, I enjoy making art, being with friends and family, exploring nature, and walking my dog Shadow around my hometown, Haverhill, MA.

Software Engineer

As a self-taught software engineer, I took a unique route to get to where I am today. I started my career creating a startup called Veehic, a peer to peer used car marketplace where you could buy the car entirely online via escrow. From there I  jumped around to a multitude of startups and other organizations in other verticals (Marketplaces, Information Technology, Health Tech, SaSS).

I enjoy writing clean and testable Ruby code and working with new languages and frameworks I haven’t had the chance to work with yet. With a wide range of technical knowledge I can make an immediate impact at any organization including Common Good.

Tech Lead

From my youth, I’ve had a talent for figuring out how things work. I would take apart and repair anything from VCRs, televisions and radios to washers & dryers. I was also interested in electronics and enjoyed building circuits and making robots out of household items. The first computer I was exposed to was the Commodore 64. I was immediately hooked, leading to a lifelong fascination with computer technology (and video games…).

I studied computer science at The University of Missouri and began working in the information technology field in the late 1990s. I formed my consulting company, Daedelin, in 2004. I served as IT Director for Better Family Life (a community-based nonprofit organization in St. Louis) for 5 years. Throughout my career, I’ve developed applications spanning multiple industries including small medical practices, nonprofit organizations and general businesses. Since 2014, I’ve primarily done work in the Internet of Things space.

I’ve been married since 2003 and have 3 sons. In my spare time, I enjoy making music on the computer and watching science fiction movies and shows.

I learned about Common Good while working on an app for the Truth Telling Project. Common Good’s mission of economic empowerment for communities struck a chord with me. I appreciate the opportunity to help further that mission using my technical skills.

Information Technology

I spent 10+ years as a professional programmer after graduating from college. Then, realizing there were other things in life, I spent the next 7 years as a musician, dancer, sound man, and handyman. When I got tired of being poor I decided to go back to programming, but no-one would hire me after a 7-year gap. So I went to graduate school in Computer Science at UMass Amherst, got a PhD, and spent the next 14 years teaching Computer Science at varied locations in the region.

In 2018 I left teaching and joined Common Good as a programmer, because I believe in what Common Good can do and have supported the project since the Common Good Bank days (2013). I live in Greenfield with my wife and one Portuguese Water Dog.

Executive Director

I dream of the day when everyone has enough to eat, a comfortable home, and a sense of belonging. As a former community theater director and producer, I enjoy co-creating with the varied cast of characters working together to welcome that day. I have also dabbled in a variety of other professions: parent, farmer, elementary school teacher, baker, short-order cook, sales rep, dancer, software engineer, contradance musician, firefighter, delivery-person, and freelance teacher of this and that. I live with my wonderful spouse Mary Link in Ashfield, MA, a small town with a strong sense of community.
